Bhubaneswar police have seized a Thar vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of an 8-year-old girl and critically injured her mother and younger brother.
The accident occurred near Patrapada V2 on the NH road when the speeding Thar, racing alongside a Scorpio, struck the family while they were crossing the road.
The deceased has been identified as Reshma Raul, an 8-year-old resident of Phuleshwari Basti. Her mother, Rebati Raul, and younger brother, Mahi Raul (2), sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.
According to police, the driver of the Thar, employed as a home guard by the Commissionerate Police and living with his family in Phuleshwari Basti, fled the scene after the accident. The vehicle was later recovered near Jatani from the Khondha area by the police, while the driver remains at large.
The incident took place after Rebati had gone to tie Rakhi at her brother’s house in Patia, accompanied by her children. On their return by bus in the evening, the collision occurred near Patrapada, causing severe injuries to the entire family. Traffic was disrupted on the Bhubaneswar-Khordha route following the accident.
Hospital sources confirmed the death of Reshma at the emergency ward, while her mother and brother remain in critical condition. Police investigations are ongoing.
