In a spectacular display of proactive policing, Khordha Model Police delivered a crushing blow to criminal elements on Sunday night, arresting six members of a dacoity gang just as they were finalising plans for a major robbery.

Acting on credible intelligence, a specially formed raid team swooped in between 8 and 8:30 PM near the 6th IRB ‘F’ Type Quarter in the quarry area behind it. The suspects were reportedly preparing to strike when officers pounced, catching them completely off guard.

From the arrested gang, police seized a chilling arsenal: one fake pistol, an iron chopper (chhapad), a long knife, another knife, a wooden-handled iron sickle/axe (kati), three iron rods, and several high-value mobile phones — a silver-white Realme, light-white Oppo A3, peach-pink Mi 11 Lite NE 5G, white iPhone, and light-blue Redmi 13 5G. Two motorcycles were also impounded: a blue-black Pulsar 220 (OD 02 DE 8944) and a blue Honda Dream Neo (OD 02 M 4893), along with cigarette butts.

The six arrested have been identified as:

  • Prasanna Kumar Pandia (27), Nalipada Arjunpur, Khordha
  • Bikram Radha (26), Harachandi Sahi, Puri Town
  • Rajendra Behera (19), Saradhapur village, Khordha
  • Pradip Singh (19), Christian Sahi, Khordha
  • Rashmi Ranjan Mandal (26), Badapari area, Tangi
  • Basant Kumar Sahu, Bauri Sahi, Khordha, along with a 21-year-old youth from Baseli Sahi, Khordha

The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Khordha SP, Paramar Smit Parshottam Das, with SDPO Pankaj Kumar Majhi and Model PS IIC Sanjay Kumar Nayak providing on-ground oversight. Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kumar Pingua led the crack team that included ASI Sushant Kumar Mallik, Constables Narayan Nayak (208), Rakesh Kumar Muduli (176), Sunita Barik (323), and Home Guard Srinivas Mahapatra.

This marks the second major success for Khordha Police in just two days — another dacoity gang was rounded up from the Batamangala road area earlier.

A case has been registered at Khordha Adarsha Police Station (Case No. 341/26) under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 310(4), 310(5), 296, and 351(3). The accused have been forwarded to court.
