Rayagada: An elderly woman was killed after being struck by lightning in Kharajoda village under Kalyansingpur block in Rayagada district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Yamuna Mahanandia.
As per reports, this morning, while Yamuna was returning from the farmland, heavy rain began to fall. Consequently, she took shelter under a nearby tree. Tragically, she was critically injured by a lightning strike.
The locals quickly rushed her to the Kalyansinghpur Community Health Centre, where the doctor declared her dead.
A pall of gloom descended on the village after Yamuna’s death. The villagers are now calling for the government to provide compensation to the impoverished family of the deceased.
