Inter Miami surged into the knockout stages of the Leagues Cup 2025 with a commanding 3-1 victory over Pumas UNAM, led by a stellar performance from Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan striker scored once and assisted twice, filling the void left by Lionel Messi, who was absent due to a minor muscle injury.
Rodrigo De Paul netted his first goal for Inter Miami in the 45th minute, equalising after Jorge Ruvalcaba’s opener for Pumas. Suarez then converted a penalty in the 59th minute and set up Tadeo Allende for the third goal in the 69th, sealing the win.
Messi, recovering from an injury sustained against Necaxa, watched the match from a suite at Chase Stadium. Despite his absence, Miami now leads the MLS contingent with eight points and becomes the first club to advance to the tournament’s next phase.
