Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kataria has transferred Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shailendra Narayana Palei from Pattamundai Rural Police Station to the District Police Headquarters.
The decision follows the tragic self-immolation of a young girl who had reportedly faced months of cyber harassment and blackmail by her ex-boyfriend.
The girl, who succumbed to burn injuries after allegedly setting herself ablaze with kerosene, had earlier approached the police with her family to lodge a complaint. However, the ASI allegedly dismissed their plea and advised her to block the accused on social media instead of registering an FIR.
SP Kataria has assured an unbiased investigation and pledged to personally oversee the inquiry, including allegations of police negligence. The post-mortem report, expected today, will determine whether the death was a suicide or involved foul play. Meanwhile, investigators are examining the victim’s call records and digital footprint.
The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for accountability in cases involving cybercrime and gender-based violence.
