The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its efforts to address persistent waterlogging issues across several localities in the city.

On Thursday morning, BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana visited the Panchasakha Nagar area in Ward 64, one of the affected zones, to assess the situation firsthand and engage with local residents. The visit was part of BMC’s ongoing field-level monitoring and public interaction drive aimed at finding timely solutions to monsoon-related challenges.

During the inspection, the Commissioner identified key infrastructural gaps and emphasized the need for urgent intervention from WATCO, the city’s water management agency. Specific instructions were issued to accelerate work on BT Road and adjoining areas, with a 48-hour deadline set for WATCO to initiate corrective measures. A follow-up visit is scheduled in one month to review progress.

Apart from waterlogging, the inspection also brought to light encroachment and street lighting issues in parts of the locality. Officials were directed to initiate discussions with affected parties to resolve encroachments amicably. Additionally, select areas were identified for future beautification projects under the BMC’s urban improvement plan.

The Commissioner called for active community participation and cooperation in tackling civic issues, stating that public engagement is key to sustainable urban development.

Representatives from WATCO, BMC staff, the local corporator, and residents were present during the visit.
