In a major initiative to preserve and promote Odisha’s iconic silver filigree craft, the foundation stone of a Silver Filigree Common Facility Centre (CFC) was laid at Bidanasi, Sector-6 in Cuttack.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida presided over the ceremony, affirming that the centre will blend tradition with innovation and empower local artisans through training and market access.

With a proposed investment of Rs 8.5 crore, the 1,500 sq. ft. facility will host modern equipment, artisan training sessions, and a single-roof marketing hub. Parida emphasised the centre’s potential to provide Cuttack a distinctive identity on the global stage, preserving cultural heritage while fostering economic upliftment.

Currently home to over 500 artisans, Cuttack aims to expand its artisan base to 5,000 families through this initiative. The centre is designed not merely as a workspace, but as an experiential lab for future generations of craftsmen. It will also guide startups and evolve into a tourism hotspot where visitors can observe live demonstrations of silver filigree preparation.

Recognising the tireless craftsmanship behind silver filigree—a tradition passed down generations—the Deputy CM proposed the designation of Cuttack’s filigree artisan cluster as a Heritage Artisan Village. She assured that the facility will be completed within eight months.

Local leaders, including Barabati MLA Eng. Sophia Firdous, Cuttack Sadar MLA Prakash Chandra Sethi, and District Collector Dattatraya B Shinde echoed support. They highlighted the centre’s role in enhancing artisan training, uplifting communities, and attracting international acclaim.

CMD of Odisha Police Housing Corporation Soumendra Priyadarshi pledged timely completion of the project, while Municipal Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota concluded the event with a vote of thanks, underscoring civic pride and cultural preservation.
