In a shocking case from Kutrabeda village in Odisha’s Koraput district, hundreds of poor tribal families allege they have not received even a single grain of millet under government welfare schemes — despite signing receipts and biometric verification.
Villagers like Pralhad Saraka, Adana Saraka, and Bhaskarao Saraka say they were given slips confirming distribution, but no Mandia (millet) ever arrived. They accuse the local control dealer of repeatedly making excuses, while official records falsely show rations as delivered.
Locals believe the scam extends beyond millets, pointing to earlier allegations of rice distribution fraud in the same panchayat. Many suspect collusion between dealers and officials, calling it a systematic siphoning of food meant for the poor.
While Kutrabeda Panchayat Executive Officer Ramachandra Meleka denied wrongdoing, Bandhugaon BDO Meenati Jagdev promised a thorough investigation. “I will personally look into the matter,” the PEO said, adding that any supply gaps would be addressed.
