Political tensions have resurfaced on campus with pre-election violence breaking out at Samanta Chandra Sekhar College.

Although no official announcement or notification regarding the upcoming student union elections has been made, clashes have already begun between student groups vying for dominance.

The incident on Friday left two students injured, who are currently admitted to the district headquarters hospital. Reports indicate that a student returning from an exam was attacked near the college premises. Another student, who tried to shield the victim, was also assaulted. A student named Shubham has lodged a complaint against four individuals. Police have detained one suspect, who is being interrogated by Town Police Station officials.

Political Rivalry Sparks Tension
Despite student union elections not being held in the last six years, anticipation of this year’s elections has stirred up rivalry among student groups. Students aligned with ABVP and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BJD’s student wing) came face-to-face in a heated confrontation today.

According to sources, some aspiring student leaders have already begun campaigning to gain support. Tensions escalated when both factions allegedly called in former students for reinforcement, further intensifying the situation. Reports also suggest that weapons were brandished during the altercation.

Police have increased their presence on campus to ensure safety and prevent further escalation. The incident has raised concerns about what might happen as election dates draw closer.
