Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead a 16-hour special discussion on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha on July 28.

The debate will also spotlight the recent Pahalgam terror attack, as the government aims to respond to Opposition demands for clarity on critical defence and diplomatic issues.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the schedule, adding that the Rajya Sabha will take up the debate the following day, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other senior leaders expected to participate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi may intervene in both Houses, marking a rare and high-stakes engagement in Parliament’s Monsoon Session.

This comes after five consecutive days of disruption in the House, as Opposition members protested over various issues—including claims by former US President Donald Trump about brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. An all-party meeting helped break the stalemate, paving the way for this extended debate.

Rijiju emphasised the government’s openness to a full discussion, stating, “We are ready for a serious debate on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror incident. The Speaker has approved a structured session to restore normalcy and address public concerns.”

Key participants expected include Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP leaders Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, and MPs from TDP and other regional outfits.

The Monsoon Session has seen limited legislative progress, with only one Bill passed so far. With tensions high, the scheduled debate on July 28 could be pivotal in reshaping discourse on cross-border issues, internal security, and India’s diplomatic posture.
