Bhubaneswar: After almost two decades A Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT) has been sighted in Odisha’s Sundargarh, informed by district Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda today.
The tiger must have travelled a few hundred miles to reach Odisha to crave out its new territory, he revealed on social media X. The big cat has been captured in a camera trap recently. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has also confirmed that the tiger has come from the Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, added the PCCF.
As per the recent All Odisha Tiger Estimation 2023-24 report by the Odisha government, there are 30 adult tigers with eight cubs in Odisha’s forests. While Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district houses a total of 27 adults (14 female and 13 males) and 8 cubs.
One adult male each has been sighted in the Hirakud Wildlife Division, Paralakhemundi Territorial Forest Division and Greater Similipal tiger landscape.
