As the monsoon session of Parliament begins today, the Centre has expressed readiness to discuss Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the government is open to debates on all issues of national interest, including the US President Donald Trump’s claim of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

During an all-party meeting on Sunday, the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Left, NCP(SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT) demanded detailed discussions. Even NDA ally Shiv Sena’s MP Shrikant Shinde supported the demand.

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi urged PM Modi to personally address the House on the Pahalgam attack, intelligence lapses, and Trump’s remarks, calling them damaging to the dignity of India and its Army. While it is unclear if the PM will speak, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to issue a statement.

Meanwhile, Opposition parties are also preparing to raise the voter roll revision (SIR) in Bihar, calling it disenfranchisement, and the alleged imposition of Hindi in Maharashtra. The Centre plans to table 17 bills in this session, scheduled to run until August 21.

Rijiju appealed for bipartisan cooperation to ensure smooth proceedings:

“We may be of different ideologies, but it’s our collective duty to let Parliament function.”
