In an extensive operation on Saturday, Bhadrak police dismantled a significant sex trafficking ring operating within the town. The crackdown led to the arrest of multiple individuals and the rescue of several women coerced into sex work across various hotels.
Acting on intelligence reports, law enforcement targeted a hotel near the bypass under the jurisdiction of Bhadrak Town Police Station. The operation was spearheaded by Bhadrak City DSP Sambit Majhi, who orchestrated a surprise raid resulting in the apprehension of several sex workers.
To ensure the success of the mission, an undercover officer posed as a client, gaining entry into the establishment. After initial negotiations, a room was assigned, and a sex worker was sent to the operative. This setup allowed the police team to intervene promptly, rescuing the woman and detaining hotel staff complicit in the illicit activities.
Further intelligence prompted authorities to extend their operations to the outskirts of the city, specifically Charampa and Asura. In these areas, similar raids were conducted, leading to the arrest of a man and a sex worker found in a tailoring shop’s restroom. Additionally, another woman involved in the trade was apprehended from a room in a well-known hotel chain.
“Three places were raided today, including a hotel. We have also received inputs about illegal activities occurring in other parts of the city and are in the process of verifying those reports,” stated Bhadrak City DSP Sambit Majhi.
Investigations have unveiled that sex workers operated from various hotels, private rooms, and rented houses within the district. In response, police have initiated raids at undisclosed locations to root out the network comprehensively.
As of the latest reports, three sex workers and two men have been detained. .
