ICG rescue off Andaman Islands

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully recovered two crew members from a disabled U.S. sailing vessel, Sea Angel, stranded around 52 nautical miles southeast of Indira Point, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The vessel was caught in extreme conditions on July 10, suffering a blown sail and an entangled propeller that rendered it helpless against rough seas. Responding to a distress alert, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Port Blair activated emergency protocols and alerted nearby vessels.

ICG ship Rajveer was promptly dispatched to the location. Establishing communication with the stranded crew, the team assessed the situation on-site. Despite mechanical failure and harsh winds, both crew members were found unharmed and in good spirits.

By the morning of July 11, the ICG had successfully towed Sea Angel and escorted it safely to Campbell Bay Harbour, concluding yet another testament to India’s maritime readiness and humanitarian commitment.
