A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight carrying approximately 175 passengers was forced to return to the Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna this morning after a technical snag developed mid-air, reportedly caused by a bird strike.

Flight IGO5009 had taken off around 08:42 IST, but soon after departure, the crew reported engine vibrations. Airport authorities later confirmed that a dead bird was found in pieces on the runway, leading to suspicions of a bird collision.

“The aircraft requested to return shortly after departure due to engine vibration. Local stand-by was declared, and the plane made a safe landing at 09:03 IST on Runway 7,” read a statement from the Patna airport authorities. No injuries were reported, and all passengers, including the flight crew, were safely disembarked.

The affected aircraft has been grounded for inspection, and IndiGo has assured passengers of alternate arrangements to reach their destination in Delhi.

Bird strikes, though common, pose significant risks to aircraft engines, especially during takeoffs and landings. Aviation authorities continuously monitor such incidents to improve safety protocols.

Authorities have launched a detailed inspection and are reviewing runway safety to avoid future occurrences. Meanwhile, passengers expressed relief at the swift and professional response of the airline and ground staff.
