Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing projects under the Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) and Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC).

The meeting focused on expediting critical energy projects to strengthen the state’s power infrastructure, a cornerstone for Odisha’s industrial and economic growth.

Singhdeo directed departmental officials to accelerate project timelines, emphasising their significance as milestones in bolstering Odisha’s energy security. He personally reviewed delays, engaging with central authorities to resolve bottlenecks. Key OPGC projects discussed included the third-phase expansion with two 660 MW units, a 50 MW solar project, and flue gas desulfurization initiatives.

Additionally, discussions covered ash utilisation and management of unused mining areas.OHPC’s projects under scrutiny included the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project in Kalahandi, the 600 MW Upper Kolab Pumped Storage Project in Koraput, the 500 MW Balimela Pumped Storage Project in Malkangiri, and the 63 MW Khadaga Hydropower Project in Kandhamal. These projects aim to enhance Odisha’s renewable energy capacity and ensure a sustainable power supply.

Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev instructed officials to closely monitor progress, ensuring timely execution. The meeting saw participation from senior officials, including OPGC Managing Director Kedar Ranjan Pandu, OHPC Director Ashish Kumar Mohanty, and Additional Secretaries Nivedita Mishra and Lipsa Das, among others.

Singhdeo’s proactive approach underscores Odisha’s commitment to modernising its energy infrastructure, aligning with national goals for clean energy and self-reliance. The successful implementation of these projects is expected to significantly boost the state’s power generation capacity, supporting industrial growth and improving energy access across rural and urban areas.
