Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth led a high-level delegation to Madagascar from June 25 to 27, representing India during the country’s 65th Independence Day and the commemoration of the founding of the Malagasy Armed Forces.
The visit reaffirmed India’s commitment to strategic cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region as Shri Seth met with Madagascar’s Minister of Armed Forces, Lt Gen Sahivelo Lala Monja Delphin. The two leaders held substantive discussions on deepening bilateral defence collaboration, with a specific emphasis on maritime security and capacity building.
During the official engagements, Shri Seth also called on Prime Minister Christian Ntsay, conveying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s warm felicitations and reiterating India’s role as a reliable development partner for Madagascar.
In addition to high-level talks, the Raksha Rajya Mantri addressed a vibrant gathering of the Indian diaspora at a reception hosted by the Indian Embassy in Antananarivo. He shared updates on India’s economic resurgence and invited the diaspora to contribute actively to bilateral cooperation.
India and Madagascar, both strategic stakeholders in the Indian Ocean, share a longstanding relationship rooted in mutual respect and shared aspirations. This visit reflects India’s continued push under the MAHASAGAR initiative—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions—to foster regional stability, prosperity, and maritime synergy.
