As the world-renowned Rath Yatra draws devotees and tourists from across the country and abroad, a tragic incident occurred on Puri’s beach.
While thousands thronged the Grand Road (Bada Danda) to catch a glimpse of the deities seated on their majestic chariots, a group of tourists who had arrived from Ganjam decided to take a ritualistic dip in the sea.
During their bath, powerful waves lashed unexpectedly, injuring several. Among them, two tourists—a woman and a man—sustained serious injuries, particularly in their legs. Local volunteers quickly rushed to assist.
The injured man was transported to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital in an auto-rickshaw, while the woman was shifted in an ambulance for immediate medical care. They are now undergoing treatment. District authorities have been notified of the incident, and it has been reported that the injured have since returned home.
This event highlights the need for heightened awareness and precautionary measures near the beach, especially during large gatherings and tidal activity.
