The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday expelled three of its sitting MLAs—Abhay Singh (Gosainganj), Rakesh Pratap Singh (Gauriganj), and Manoj Kumar Pandey (Unchahar)—for allegedly aligning with forces opposing the party’s core principles.
The party stated that the legislators were promoting “communal, divisive, and negative ideologies,” which contradict SP’s foundational ethos of inclusivity and social justice. According to the official statement posted on the party’s social media handles, the MLAs were accused of siding with interests that are detrimental to farmers, women, youth, and marginalised communities.
“All three were extended a grace period to realign themselves with the party’s values, but they continued to act in ways that damaged public welfare and the SP’s mission,” the statement read. “Their actions were not only anti-people but directly opposed the ideals for which the Samajwadi Party stands.”
The expulsions signal a strong warning to other party members regarding ideological discipline and loyalty. The leadership emphasised that those undermining public interests or straying from the party’s vision will face strict action, including permanent removal.
The move comes amid heightened political activity in Uttar Pradesh, as parties position themselves ahead of the upcoming assembly and general elections.
“Be trustworthy wherever you are. Best wishes,” the party concluded, in a message that many view as both stern and symbolic.
