In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Odisha on June 20, the Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack has released a comprehensive traffic advisory to ensure smooth vehicular regulation and heightened security during the event.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in a public programme at Janata Maidan, marking the completion of one year of the current Odisha government. As part of the visit, a roadshow from BPI Airport to Janata Maidan will be conducted, prompting a range of traffic restrictions and diversions from 3 PM to 6 PM or until the event concludes.
Key Traffic Diversions:
-
Buses from Cuttack should use Rasulgarh – Vani Vihar – Acharya Vihar – Apollo Hospital – Sainik School route.
-
Buses from Khurda must divert via Jaydev Vihar – Apollo Hospital – NALCO Square – Kalinga Hospital road and park near Utkal Hospital.
-
Those coming from Puri should route via Kalpana – Raj Mahal – Sishu Bhawan and park from Sishu Bhawan to Capital Hospital Square.
-
Heavy goods vehicles will be restricted. Trucks from Khurda to Cuttack are diverted at Pitapalli Square via Chandaka; those from Cuttack must reroute via Balikuda and Trishulia.
Designated Parking Zones:
Multiple parking lots, including areas near Sainik School, NALCO Square, Behera Sahi, and XIMB, have been prepared for efficient vehicle management. Special zones are marked for VIPs, media, and emergency vehicles, with clear demarcations to ensure unhindered access.
Goods carriers (trucks and trailers with 6 or more wheels) coming from the Khurda side and intending to travel towards Cuttack will not be allowed to pass through Pitapalli Square. These vehicles will be diverted at Pitapalli Square towards Cuttack via Chandaka Square. Similarly, goods carriers coming from the Cuttack side will be diverted at Balikuda Square towards Pitapalli Square via Trishulia Square.
Due to this traffic management, significant congestion is expected in and around Bhubaneswar city, particularly on the route from BPI Airport to Janata Maidan. The affected route includes the following: Airport Square, Capital Hospital Square, AG Square (left turn), Raj Bhawan Square (right turn), Power House Square, 120 Bn Square, Shastri Nagar Square, Behera Sahi Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, XIMB Square, NALCO Square, and their connecting lanes and by-lanes. This situation will occur on June 20, 2025, from 3 PM to 6 PM, or until the completion of the event.
Commissioner Dr. Sures Dev Datta Singh, IPS, urged citizens to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with law enforcement. Emergency services, including fire and ambulance, are exempt from these restrictions.
This comprehensive advisory underscores the significance of the visit and the expected turnout. Citizens are encouraged to avoid travel along the designated route during the notified hours.
