Odisha Vigilance has expanded its investigation into Dhiman Chakma, IAS (2021 batch), Sub-Collector, Dharamgarh, Dist-Kalahandi, who was arrested on June 9, 2025, in a corruption case.
Authorities are now conducting verification at multiple locations linked to the accused, including Tripura and Himachal Pradesh.
Chakma was caught accepting Rs 10 lakh as a bribe from a local businessman, leading to his arrest under Vigilance Cell PS Case No.6 dated June 3, 2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Following the arrest, the Odisha government has suspended Chakma and fixed his headquarters at the General Administration & Public Grievance Department, Bhubaneswar, restricting him from leaving without prior permission.
Odisha Vigilance has dispatched three investigative teams to conduct searches at Chakma’s residential house in Kanchanpur, North Tripura, and his in-laws’ residences in Himachal Pradesh at Saminala, PS-Manali, Dist-Kullu, and Rangbey, PS-Keylong, Dist-Lahaul-Spiti. These operations are conducted based on search warrants issued by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna.
Authorities are scrutinising documents related to bank deposits, financial investments, and other assets, assessing potential disproportionate assets linked to Chakma. Vigilance officials continue to track movable and immovable properties, aiming to uncover deeper financial irregularities.
The investigation marks a significant step in Odisha’s ongoing anti-corruption drive, targeting high-profile officials involved in bribery and financial misdeeds. More updates are expected as the probe progresses.
