On completing 11 years in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the remarkable transformation in India’s defence sector, citing a strategic push towards modernisation and self-reliance.

Taking to social media, PM Modi posted, “The last 11 years have marked significant changes in our defence sector, with a clear focus on both modernisation and becoming self-reliant in defence production. It is gladdening to see how the people of India have come together with the resolve of making India stronger.”

A government thread on citizen engagement platforms traced key milestones achieved under Modi’s leadership. Notable highlights included:

  • India’s defence exports surged from ₹1,940 crore in 2014-15 to an impressive ₹23,622 crore in 2024-25.

  • The indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant was unveiled, symbolising self-reliance in maritime defence.

  • Missile capabilities, such as the extended range BrahMos launched from Su-30 MKI, were significantly enhanced.

The thread titled “India’s Rise in 11 Years: Power, Partnerships, and Progress” outlined not only defence upgrades but also diplomatic achievements:

  • Landmark trade deals with the UK and UAE reinforced India’s global economic standing.

  • India’s commitment to UN peacekeeping stood out, with over 2.9 lakh troops having served in 50+ missions.

  • During COVID-19, India provided 2 lakh vaccine doses to UN peacekeepers, demonstrating its humanitarian commitment.

The message painted a picture of India’s evolution into a “confident, decisive, and respected global leader”, driven by the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India).
