Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident in Sikkim, where a tourist vehicle carrying 11 people — including 10 tourists and a driver — plunged nearly 1,000 feet into the Teesta River between Chungthang and Munshithang in North Sikkim on Thursday evening.
According to sources, at least one person has died, and eight others are reportedly missing after the devastating fall into the river. Initial reports suggest that several of the passengers were from Odisha, raising grave concern for their safety.
Upon receiving the news, Chief Minister Majhi expressed his deep condolences and held urgent discussions with the Sikkim government. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to rescue the missing, treat the injured, and repatriate the victims safely back to Odisha.
To ensure immediate and effective action, the Chief Minister has directed that a dedicated team of Odisha officials be dispatched to Sikkim. This team will oversee and support rescue operations, medical arrangements, and the overall coordination with local authorities.
“The safety and well-being of Odia passengers is our utmost priority,” CM Majhi stated, assuring that the Odisha government will extend full support to the affected families and continue to monitor the situation closely.
