Chennai Super Kings (CSK) capped off their IPL 2025 season in style, securing a comprehensive 83-run win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 67.
Despite their dominant performance, CSK finishes at the bottom of the points table, while GT now anxiously waits for results from other matches to determine their fate in the tournament.
Winning the toss, CSK opted to bat first, and their batting lineup did not disappoint. Ayush Mhatre set the tone early with a blistering 34 off 17 balls, including an explosive over against Arshad Khan. Devon Conway continued the momentum, crafting a solid half-century, while Brevis took charge with a 57 off 26 balls, registering the second-fastest fifty for CSK. Their fiery batting propelled CSK to a formidable total of 230/5.
GT’s bowling unit struggled, with Prasidh Krishna emerging as their best performer, finishing with 2/22 in his four overs. However, no other GT bowler could restrict CSK’s relentless batting onslaught.
Gujarat Titans faltered early in their chase, losing Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Rutherford within the first five overs, leaving them reeling at 30/3. Shah Rukh Khan and Sai Sudharsan attempted to rebuild the innings with a 50-plus partnership, but the mounting pressure led to their downfall. Ravindra Jadeja delivered a crucial double strike in the 11th over, effectively sealing the match in CSK’s favour.
With the game all but decided, CSK experimented with part-time bowlers alongside their overseas stars Noor Ahmed and Pathirana, who wrapped up the innings, restricting GT to 147 all out. Noor Ahmed and Kamboj stood out with three wickets each, ensuring a dominant finish for CSK.
Despite their impressive win, CSK’s campaign ends on a disappointing note, finishing with the wooden spoon for the first time in IPL history. For GT, the defeat means they must await the outcomes of RCB and LSG’s matches, alongside hoping the PBKS-MI clash isn’t affected by rain, to secure their playoff spot.
As IPL 2025 heads into its final phase, the battle for playoff positions remains heated. Will GT survive the cut, or will their hopes be shattered? Stay tuned for updates!
