The much-anticipated JEE Advanced 2025 examination concluded on May 18, with candidates battling challenging questions across two shifts.
Conducted by IIT Kanpur, the exam witnessed thousands of aspirants vying for seats in the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
While the difficulty level varied across subjects, Mathematics emerged as the most daunting section, particularly in Paper 2. Many students reported time-consuming, complex calculations. Physics posed a moderate challenge, with tricky numerical problems, while Chemistry was regarded as the easiest, featuring direct concept-based questions.
Each paper contained 48 questions, divided into sections testing various types of problem-solving skills. Paper 1 featured single-correct, multiple-correct, numerical-type, and list-match type questions, while Paper 2 maintained similar formats.
Next Steps for Candidates
Following the exam, IIT Kanpur will release the candidates’ response sheets on May 22, while the provisional answer key will be made available on May 26. Students can then challenge any discrepancies. The final results, including All India Ranks, are scheduled to be announced on June 2, paving the way for JoSAA counselling, which will determine admissions into IITs and other premier engineering institutes.
The official question papers for both shifts can be accessed on the JEE Advanced website ().
Key Exam Takeaways:
- Mathematics was the toughest section, followed by Physics.
- Chemistry was rated the easiest among all subjects.
- Candidates can download their responses on May 22.
- Provisional answer key to be published on May 26.
- Final results and ranks will be declared on June 2.
Chemistry (easiest of the three): Students found chemistry to be straightforward and mostly concept-based. Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry were well-balanced. Only a few questions involved lengthy calculations.
Physics (moderate to tough): Physics requires a clear conceptual understanding. While Paper 1 was easier, Paper 2 had lengthier numerical problems. Time management played a key role here.
Mathematics (toughest section): Maths was the hardest for most candidates, especially in Paper 2. The section had long, calculation-heavy questions that made it time-consuming. Even Paper 1, although slightly easier, wasn’t exactly a breeze.
Difficulty ranking by subject: Chemistry < Physics < Mathematics
OVERALL PAPER STRUCTURE
Each paper had 48 questions (16 per subject), making a total of 96 questions and 360 marks across both papers. Formats included single correct, multiple correct, numerical, and match-the-list type questions.
Paper 1 had four sections, while Paper 2 had three. Marks varied by question type, and negative marking was applicable in many parts.
