Bhadrak: As expected, BJD leader and former Rajendra Das alias Raju put up a rebellion finally by filing his nomination as an Independent candidate for the by-poll to Dhamnagar Assembly segment.
Das had earlier hinted at contesting the bypoll independently after he was sidelined by the party which preferred Abanti Das as the BJD candidate.
Das on Friday reached the Sub-collector office in grand procession of his supporters and well wishers. Before coming out of his house, he paid floral tributes to the statues of his parents.
A team of BJD heavyweights had tried best to appease the disgruntled leader yesterday but in vain. Das’ resentment came in open after he was denied a party ticket. His supporters also came in favor of the former MLA and persuaded him to contest the poll independently.
After filing his nomination, Das asserted that he would emerge victorious as he can gain the sympathy of voters. He said that he had lost the election in 2019 by a slender margin only due to some vested interest. “But this time, I will fight with the blessings of senior constituents. I will come out with a flying color,” Das said.
On the other hand, BJP and Congress which fielded Suryabansi Suraj and Harekrushna Sethi respectively have hit the campaign trail. Both the parties prefer to touch every individual with a door to door to campaign.
