The Indian chess fraternity witnessed another dramatic day at top-tier international competitions. R. Praggnanandhaa surged to the top at the Superbet Chess Classic Romania, securing a crucial victory against Nodirbek Abdusattorov.

Meanwhile, R. Vaishali, competing in the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Austria, had to settle for a draw, slipping to second place in the standings.

Praggnanandhaa, playing with white pieces, displayed calculated precision and tactical mastery, defeating Abdusattorov in an intense 61-move encounter. His strategic prowess in the endgame enabled him to outmanoeuvre his opponent and clinch a full point.

Vaishali, on the other hand, had a challenging bout against seasoned Ukrainian player Mariya Muzychuk. Despite her confident opening and aggressive queenside expansion, Muzychuk’s solid defensive play neutralised Vaishali’s advances. Facing time pressure, she chose safety over risk, opting for repetition to secure a draw.

With this result, Vaishali remains half a point behind Anna Muzychuk, while Praggnanandhaa’s win puts him ahead in Romania’s prestigious chess event. As both siblings continue their journeys in their respective tournaments, Indian chess fans eagerly await their next moves.
