The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) recently approved multiple projects under its Namami Gange program, reinforcing India’s commitment to ecosystem restoration and sustainability.
The 62nd Executive Committee meeting, chaired by Shri Rajeev Kumar Mital, Director-General, NMCG, focused on integrating biodiversity and water management for the rejuvenation of the Ganga Basin.
One of the key initiatives sanctioned was the wetland conservation project for Nathmalpur Bhagad in Bihar, with an investment of ₹3.51 crore. This is the fifth wetland restoration project under NGP, adding to similar projects in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. Conservation efforts will include hydrological enhancement, biodiversity management, ecological assessments, and long-term sustainability planning.
Additionally, ₹34.50 lakh was approved for capacity-building initiatives promoting water-sensitive cities in the Ganga Basin. The project aims to develop city-level reuse plans for Agra and Prayagraj, aligning with the National Framework for Safe Reuse of Treated Water (SRTW).
This strategic push by NMCG highlights the nation’s dedication to sustainable water management, ensuring a cleaner, healthier Ganga for future generations.
