Veteran Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni took full responsibility for his team’s heartbreaking 2-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a nail-biting IPL 2025 clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.
Chasing a stiff target of 214, CSK were cruising at 172/2, but a dramatic collapse in the final overs saw them stumble to 211/6, marking their 10th loss of the season.
Dhoni, who was dismissed in the last over after scoring 12 off 8 balls, admitted he could have done more.
“I felt I should have converted a couple more shots — that would have eased the pressure. So I’ll take the blame for it,” Dhoni said in the post-match interview. “Apart from that, we pulled things back well in the middle,” he added.
Despite outstanding knocks from Ayush Mhatre (94) and *Ravindra Jadeja (77)**, CSK failed to cross the finish line. Dhoni praised Mhatre’s performance, calling it one of the bright spots in a tough season.
Earlier, Virat Kohli (62 off 33) and Jacob Bethell (55 off 33) powered RCB to 213/5, setting a daunting total. With the win, RCB climbed to the top of the table, while CSK remain at the bottom, managing just 4 points from 11 matches.
