Escalating tensions with India, Pakistan has announced the successful test of a surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a range of 450 kilometres.

The missile, known as the Abdali Weapon System, was tested on Saturday at the Sonmiani Ranges as part of its military exercise ‘Exercise INDUS,’ according to Pakistani media reports.

The test was conducted under the oversight of the Army Strategic Forces Command (ASFC), Pakistan’s unit responsible for managing nuclear-capable missiles. Senior officials, including Commander ASFC Lt. General Muhammad Shahbaz Khan and Major General Sheharyar Pervez Butt, were present during the launch.

This missile test comes amid heightened tensions between the two neighbouring countries following India’s diplomatic and military responses to the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Pakistan has been issuing Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) regarding missile test launches, increasing concerns over regional stability.

Analysts say that Pakistan’s missile tests could be aimed at demonstrating its strategic capabilities and signalling its stance in ongoing security dynamics. Meanwhile, India’s defence establishment has been closely monitoring developments, with experts cautioning that such tests may further complicate geopolitical relations.
