In a historic accomplishment, Adiba Anam from Yavatmal, Maharashtra, has cleared the 2024 UPSC Civil Services Exam, securing All India Rank 142.

She is set to become the state’s first Muslim woman IAS officer. Born and raised in a rented house, Adiba’s journey was one of resilience and determination. Her father, Ashfaque Ahmed, a rented auto-rickshaw driver and poet, provided unwavering support despite financial challenges.

After realising the cost of medical education was beyond her family’s reach, Adiba shifted her focus to civil services. She pursued a BSc in Mathematics from Inamdar Senior College, Pune, and undertook UPSC coaching at Haj House and Jamia Residential Coaching Academy. Her path was not without struggles, as she cleared the exam on her fourth attempt.

Adiba’s story is a beacon of hope for underprivileged communities, exemplifying how grit and ambition can overcome obstacles. She plans to work towards empowering girls and marginalised groups, inspired by her personal experiences. Her achievement has sparked pride in her hometown, earning praise from local police and former ministers.
