Pakistan Violates Ceasefire for Fourth Day; India Responds Swiftly Amid Rising Tensions

Tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan continue to escalate, with Pakistan violating the ceasefire for the fourth consecutive day.

The Indian Army reported that during the night of April 27-28, Pakistani Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC, targeting areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts. Indian troops responded “swiftly and effectively,” the Army confirmed in a statement.

This latest provocation follows similar incidents on the night of April 26-27, when Pakistani forces fired across the Tutmari Gali and Rampur sectors. Indian forces had then responded with appropriate retaliation.

The renewed LoC tensions come in the wake of the devastating Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives. In response, Indian security forces have intensified counter-terror operations, demolishing the houses of nine suspected terrorists across South Kashmir, including in Shopian, Pulwama, and Bandipora districts.

In addition to military action, India has announced strong diplomatic measures, including the cancellation of Pakistani visas and the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty signed in the 1960s. Pakistan retaliated by suspending the 1972 Shimla Agreement and closing its airspace to Indian airlines.

Reacting to the developments, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah voiced support for a decisive fight against terrorism but warned against actions that could alienate innocent civilians. “Punish the guilty, show them no mercy but don’t let innocent people become collateral damage,” Abdullah emphasized in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

As tensions continue to mount, the region braces for further developments in the coming days.
