A bus overturned near Shergada Square on National Highway 16 in Balasore district on Friday afternoon, injuring more than ten passengers. The accident occurred around 1:15 PM.
The bus, bearing registration number KL 63 B 3542, was carrying workers from Assam to Kerala. Witnesses said the vehicle lost balance and toppled onto the roadside near Shergada. Locals rushed to the scene, broke window panes, and rescued trapped passengers.
Authorities confirmed that all injured passengers were shifted to hospitals. Critically injured victims were taken to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital, while others received treatment at Khantapada Hospital.
Passengers reported that the main driver was resting when the helper took control of the bus. They alleged that the helper drove at high speed, leading to the accident.
Shergada outpost police reached the site and began an investigation. Officers are examining whether negligence or mechanical failure contributed to the mishap. The bus has been seized for inspection.
