The Odisha government has taken a significant step towards resolving the long-standing Kotia border dispute by establishing a high-level committee under the leadership of the Revenue Department.

This historic conflict, involving claims over the Kotia cluster of villages in Koraput district, dates back to 1920 and has persisted due to administrative gaps and development challenges.

During a recent review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, a diverse committee comprising officials and subject matter experts was announced. The team will engage in field visits, data collection, and continuous monitoring to gain ground-level insights into the issue. Their goal is to reinforce Odisha’s administrative presence in the border region and counteract external influence from Andhra Pradesh, which has been offering economic incentives to residents.

The Kotia committee is tasked with ensuring that welfare schemes reach every corner of the border region, securing Odisha’s territorial integrity while fostering development in the area. Immediate assessments and proposed actionable measures are expected to bring a resolution closer to this decades-old dispute.
