The Odisha government has established three new Civil Judge Courts (Junior Division) in the state. These courts, located in Baliapal (Balasore district), Lefripada (Sundargarh district), and Rengali (Sambalpur district), aim to enhance access to justice for local communities.

The decision, made in consultation with the Odisha High Court, was approved by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, with an official notification issued on April 23, 2025.

The establishment of these courts marks a pivotal move to address the growing judicial needs in these revenue tehsils. By setting up dedicated courts, the state government seeks to reduce the burden on existing judicial bodies and ensure faster resolution of civil cases. The new courts will have jurisdiction over their respective tehsils, effectively replacing the authority of other Junior Division Civil Judge Courts in these areas.

This initiative reflects Odisha’s commitment to strengthening its judicial framework, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions. The move is expected to benefit residents by providing localized access to legal recourse, reducing travel time, and alleviating the backlog of cases in higher courts. Legal experts and local residents have welcomed the development, citing its potential to improve efficiency and accessibility in the justice system.
