Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have strongly condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, which left one tourist dead and six others injured.
The attack, carried out in a popular tourist destination during peak season, has sent shockwaves across the region.
Calling the incident an “abomination,” Omar Abdullah expressed deep grief and outrage, stating,
“I’m shocked beyond belief. This attack on our visitors is an abomination. The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman & worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough. I send my sympathies to the families of the deceased.”
Mehbooba Mufti echoed the sentiment, labeling the violence as “unacceptable” and calling for a comprehensive probe into the attack and any potential security lapses.
“Historically, Kashmir has welcomed tourists warmly, making this rare incident deeply concerning. A thorough investigation is needed to bring the perpetrators to justice,” she said on X.
The incident, which occurred amid the bustling tourist season and ahead of the Amarnath Yatra scheduled to begin on July 3, has raised fresh security concerns. One of the pilgrimage routes passes through Pahalgam, adding to the urgency of ensuring safety in the area.
Security forces have sealed off the region and launched a large-scale search operation to track down the attackers. Checking at exit points has also been intensified.
