In response to the intense heat wave gripping the state, the Odisha government on Tuesday announced the immediate closure of all schools and colleges until further notice.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari confirmed the decision, citing rising temperatures and the need to protect students, teachers, and staff from heat-related illnesses.
“Keeping in view the extreme weather conditions, all educational institutions—both government and private—will remain closed until further orders,” said Pujari.
The India Meteorological Department has issued heat wave alerts for several districts across Odisha, with daytime temperatures soaring above 44°C in many regions. The government has also advised people to limit outdoor activities during peak hours and stay hydrated.
