In a solemn tribute to Pope Francis, the Odisha Government has declared a three-day state mourning following the revered leader’s passing on April 21.
The Government of India has announced two days of mourning across the country, with an additional day on the Pope’s funeral.
As per official directives, the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the mourning period, and all forms of official entertainment will be suspended.
Pope Francis, aged 88, passed away after suffering a cerebral stroke, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, humility, and interfaith unity. Leaders across the world, including Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, expressed heartfelt condolences.
The late pontiff will be laid to rest on April 26 at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome, a place of deep personal significance for him.
