Khallikote: Police have arrested the in-laws and husband for allegedly strangulating a woman to death over dowry at Kanheipur village in Ganjam’s Khallikote.
The accused were identified as Pabitra Muduli(27), husband of the deceased, father-in-law Niranjan Muduli (65) and mother-in-law Tamal Muduli (60). They were forwarded to court on Saturday.
The deceased is identified as Kabita Muduli(25). Kabita died on January 10. She was married to Pabitra of Kumbharasahi in 2014. She has left behind a five-year-old daughter.
Sources said that Kabita had brought a good amount of dowry in the form of cash and kind during the marriage. But, Kabita’s family members alleged that she was being tortured for dowry. They alleged that most of the time her in-laws were turning violent for no reason and indulge in her physical abuse.
Kabita’s brother Ranjit Behera has lodged an FIR with Khallikote police station alleging that his sister was killed mercilessly and they were also not informed immediately about her death.
Police sources said Kabita’s body was sent for post-mortem. The accused were booked under various section of IPC.
