Kolkata: Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha and former Union Minister-Singer Babul Supriyo, who contested on a TMC ticket on Saturday won their respective Lok Sabha and state assembly seats.
While Sinha won the Asansol Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal has won with a margin of over 2 lakh votes, Supriyo won the Ballygunge Assembly seat.
In Ballygunge, TMC’s Babul Supriyo won by more than 20,000 votes from his nearest contender, CPI(M)`s Saira Shah Halim.
The bypoll for the Asansol Lok Sabha seat was necessitated after Supriyo resigned from the lower House after quitting the BJP. He later joined the TMC. The bypoll was necessitated after the demise of state Minister Subrata Mukherjee.
On the other hand, this is the first time that the Mamata Banerjee-led party has won the Asansol Parliamentary seat.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has thanked the electors of the Asansol Parliamentary Constituency and the Ballygunge Assembly Constituency for giving a decisive mandate to her party candidates.
“We consider this to be our people’s warm Shubho Nababarsho gift to our Ma- Mati- Manush organization. Salute to the voters for reposing faith in us, yet again,” she tweeted.
