The Government of India has officially opened nominations for the Padma Awards–2026, to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2026.
Starting from 15th March, 2025, citizens have until 31st July, 2025, to submit their nominations and recommendations online through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in).
The prestigious Padma Awards, which include Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, celebrate distinguished and exceptional achievements in diverse fields such as Art, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science, Engineering, and more. Instituted in 1954, the awards honor individuals for their “work of distinction” irrespective of race, occupation, position, or sex. Notably, government servants are ineligible for the awards, with exceptions made for Doctors and Scientists.
Aligned with the Government’s vision to transform these awards into “People’s Padma,” citizens are encouraged to identify deserving individuals, particularly those from underrepresented groups such as women, weaker sections of society, SCs & STs, and divyang persons. Self-nominations are also welcomed.
Nominations should adhere to the format available on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal and include a detailed citation of the nominee’s achievements within 800 words. Further details and award statutes can be accessed through the Ministry of Home Affairs website (https://mha.gov.in) and the Padma Awards Portal (https://padmaawards.gov.in).
