Pattamundai: Two persons thrashed Pattamundai Tehsildar Dillip Kumar Sethi inside his office alleging inaction against illegal brick kilns flourishing near Kanipal village under Badamohanpur panchayat in Kendrapara district.
According to reports, Dalagobinda Sahoo and Udayabhanu Sahoo of Kanipal village barged into the Tehsildar’s office chamber at around 4.30 pm and attacked the official.
On intimation, Pattamundai police reached the spot and detained the accused duo. Reportedly, they are undergoing interrogation at the police station and the Tehsildar has also lodged a complaint with the local police station.
As per sources, a number of illegal brick kilns have come up around Kanipal village posing threat to the farmlands nearby due to pollution. Apprehending the threat to the environment and farming activities, some residents of the village had submitted a written complaint to the Tehsildar on 22nd March to curb the illegal activity. Later, on 31st March, the villagers staged a demonstration outside the Tehsil office to press for their genuine demand.
Taking note of this, Pattamundai Tehsildar Dillip Kumar Sethi directed Kathiapada Revenue Inspector (RI) to enquire and submit a report.
On the basis of the reports, the Tehsildar assured the agitating people that the brick kilns will be shut down soon in the presence of police.
However, at around 4.30 pm today, when the Tehsildar was in his office with some representatives of electronic media, two accused persons Dalagobinda Sahoo and Udayabhanu Sahoo of Kanipal village, forcibly entered the Tehsildar’s chamber and manhandled him. Following this, there was a commotion in the tehsil office for quite some time.
Later, on intimation, Pattamundai police rushed to the spot and detained the accused duo. On the other hand, the Tehsildar has lodged a written complaint with the Pattamundai police station and handed over a copy to the Pattamundai SDPO, requesting him to take legal action.
