A violent clash broke out on Monday in Tulasipur village under Marshaghai police limits of Kendrapara district over the organization of the “Ashta Prahari Naam Yajna,” a religious event.
The incident left at least 15 people injured, five of whom sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital and SCB Medical College, Cuttack, for medical treatment.
According to sources, the dispute emerged between two groups—one supporting and organizing the event and the other opposing it. As tensions flared, the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation, leading to injuries and chaos in the community.
Following the incident, police intensified patrolling in the area and lodged First Information Reports (FIRs) from both sides. Law enforcement has deployed forces in Tulasipur village to ensure peace and order. “We are closely monitoring the situation, which is now under control,” said Tapan Nayak, Inspector-In-Charge of Marshaghai police station.
Victims have alleged unprovoked attacks during preparations for the religious event. “We were attacked while organizing the yajna. They hit me with iron rods, causing head injuries,” recounted victim Kuna Jena.
The situation remains tense, and the community awaits further resolution as authorities continue to investigate the matter.
