Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik conducted an extensive on-the-ground assessment of flood-affected regions in Ganjam district on Saturday, 7 November 2026, urging the Odisha government to deploy immediate financial relief, crop compensation, and infrastructure restoration.
Patnaik visited four major flood-impacted blocks—Sheragada, Hinjilicut, Aska, and Sorada—where thousands of local residents, farmers, and small traders gathered to present their losses following heavy inundation.
On-the-Ground Inspection Across Ganjam Belts
The Leader of Opposition reviewed field damage caused by riverine overflows and heavy runoff across multiple constituencies:
- Sheragada Town: Interacted with villagers reporting structural damage to houses, washed-out village roads, and degraded farmland.
- Hinjilicut (Nuaburupada GP): Assessed agricultural land erosion and loss of rural livelihoods in his constituency belt.
- Aska (Kotinada & Town Outskirts): Met with local traders’ associations who submitted formal memoranda outlining severe commercial inventory losses due to floodwaters.
- Sorada (Tatabali & Baligocha): Inspected damaged paddy crops and submerged sugarcane fields alongside local farming communities.
Political Delegation & Monitoring Framework
Patnaik noted that his office at Naveen Niwas and local party units had been tracking the regional weather developments since the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Ganjam on 23 October.
The touring delegation included senior BJD leaders Debi Prasad Mishra, Pratap Jena, Usha Devi, Bikram Panda, Chandrasekhar Sahu, Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik, Bhrugu Baxipatra, Pranab Balabantaray, Rupesh Panigrahi, Chinmayananda Srirupa Deb, Srikanta Sahu, and Lenin Mohanty.
