Fresh controversy has erupted within the Odisha Prison Department as suspended Balasore Jailor Pradipta Kumar Mahalik leveled grave allegations against former Director General (DG) of Prisons Sushant Nath.
In a formal letter addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Mahalik detailed how his suspension was an act of retaliation after he refused to comply with illegal and unethical directives from the former top official.
Allegations of Coercion and False Implication
According to the official letter, former Jail DG Sushant Nath and other officials allegedly pressured Mahalik to plant brown sugar on an inmate named Rajib Lochan Das in the Balasore District Jail and falsely frame him in a police case.
- Refusal to Comply: Mahalik asserted that despite being offered monetary rewards, prizes, and promotions by the former DG to execute the plan, he firmly refused to carry out the illegal framing.
- Punitive Suspension: Following his refusal and subsequent illness due to severe stress, Mahalik was arbitrarily suspended by the DG on October 17, 2017.
Plea to Home Department for Reinstatement
In his formal grievance to the Home Department, Mahalik requested urgent administrative intervention. The suspended jailor appealed to have his suspension order reviewed and revoked, citing that the action taken against him was entirely unethical, illegal, and malicious.
Mahalik sought reinstatement to his former posting at the Balasore District Jail.
