Panic gripped the quiet village of Maharakuula in Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Friday morning after early morning commuters made a gruesome discovery: the decapitated body of an unidentified woman lying abandoned on the Luna River embankment.
According to preliminary reports, residents spotted the headless body during their morning routine and immediately alerted local authorities. Upon receiving the information, a team from the Kudanagari police station rushed to the scene to secure the area and initiate inquiries.
Police officers recovered a pair of slippers lying near the body, alongside visible bloodstains on the embankment, suggesting that the crime or disposal took place at the site.
Murder Suspected
The horrific nature of the discovery has raised widespread suspicion of foul play among the local population. Villagers fear that the woman was murdered elsewhere or on the bank itself before her remains were left exposed on the riverbank.
The identity of the deceased remains unestablished as investigators search for missing persons reports in neighbouring districts.
Police Launch Investigation
Kudanagari police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and timing of death. Forensic experts and crime team personnel have been brought in to analyse the blood samples and physical evidence gathered from the spot.
“We have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter. Efforts are underway to identify the victim and trace those responsible for this crime,” a police official stated.
Further updates are awaited as law enforcement awaits the post-mortem report and continues its search along the river corridor.
