The Indian Embassy in Paris has issued a high-priority safety advisory for Indian citizens living in or traveling to France following widespread violent protests and localized curfews across several French cities.
Urging nationals to remain highly vigilant and exercise maximum caution, the embassy advised against visiting areas with active demonstrations or large gatherings. Citizens have also been asked to monitor official updates regarding public transportation disruptions and follow instructions from local authorities.
The advisory comes in the wake of escalating civil unrest across France, driven by rising living costs, high fuel prices, declining public services, and student-led grievances regarding school funding and university admissions.
Protests in major urban centers—including Paris, Marseille, Lyon, and Bordeaux—have turned violent, resulting in arson, looting, and clashes with police. With student unions and groups affiliated with the “yellow vest” movement calling for fresh demonstrations, French authorities have enforced targeted curfews and enhanced security measures.
In case of emergency, the Indian Embassy provided dedicated helpline numbers (+33 6 48 34 00 63 / +33 7 43 16 25 59) and email support (cons.paris@mea.gov.in) for affected citizens.
