Meteorological authorities are closely monitoring a developing low-pressure system over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, projected to form by October 23.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is expected to move northwestward and potentially intensify, though definitive tracking models remain divided.
While global weather models show differing trajectories—with the American GFS and European ECMWF models pointing toward potential cyclone development between October 24 and October 28—the IMD has clarified that there is no immediate threat or official cyclone warning for Odisha at present.
However, a yellow alert has been sounded for October 26 and 27, warning of thunderstorms with lightning and squally winds reaching 30-40 kmph across coastal and neighboring districts.
Weather scientists note that a clearer picture regarding the system’s eventual track, intensity, and landfall possibility will emerge after October 25 once the low-pressure area consolidates.
