A Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court in Delhi on Wednesday ordered the immediate release of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka after accepting their fresh bail sureties.
The decision brings an end to their judicial custody, which had been extended by two days on October 19 following an initial period of confinement.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), acting as the Special Executive Magistrate at the Mandir Marg police station, processed the release orders after the party leaders furnished their required sureties. Chief spokesperson Saurav Das and national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka were originally detained on October 13 by the Delhi Police.
The preventive detention and subsequent judicial custody stemmed from allegations that the duo breached police barricades and entered the Jantar Mantar site during protests held against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
