On the occasion of World Menopause Day 2026, observed on October 18, the Ministry of AYUSH has emphasised a holistic, preventive approach to women’s health during menopause.
Spearheaded by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), the initiative highlights the role of Ayurveda in supporting physical health, emotional equilibrium, and overall quality of life.
Menopause—referred to in Classical Ayurveda as Rajonivritti—is a natural biological transition that typically occurs between ages 45 and 55.
Rather than viewing it as a medical disorder, Ayurveda provides a multidimensional framework combining rejuvenating Rasayana therapies, dietary guidance, yoga, and classical herbal formulations such as Ashokarista, Lodhrasava, and Amalaki Rasayana.
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, stressed the importance of individualised care and scientific validation.
Furthermore, Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General of CCRAS, noted that ongoing research focuses on validating traditional formulations to support hormonal balance, bone density, and emotional resilience.
The ministry also highlighted tailored dietary practices and stress-reducing yoga techniques—including Setu Bandhasana, Shavasana, and Sitali Pranayama—to enhance vitality. The Ministry of AYUSH calls for open conversations to empower women to navigate menopause with confidence and optimal health.
